BAGGAGE
Checked baggage 
The baggage allowance works according to weight per piece of luggage and varies according to where in the world you’re flying.  In addition, Gold members of Flying Club are permitted one extra bag weighing up to 23 kg on all Virgin Atlantic operated flights regardless of which cabin you’re flying.
 
•Little Red (UK Domestic) – one piece of luggage not exceeding 23 kg (50 lb) with dimensions not exceeding 90 x 75 x 43 cm (35 x 30 x 17 in) each.
•Economy Class –varies from one to two pieces of luggage not exceeding 23 kg (50 lb) with dimensions not exceeding 90 x 75 x 43 cm (35 x 30 x 17 in) each.
•Premium Economy Class – varies from two to three pieces of luggage not exceeding 23 kg (50 lb) with dimensions not exceeding 90 x 75 x 43 cm (35 x 30 x 17 in) each.
•Upper Class – three pieces of luggage not exceeding 32 kg (50 lb) with dimensions not exceeding 90 x 75 x 43 cm (35 x 30 x 17 in) each.
•Children & infants – one bag not exceeding 23 kg, plus fully collapsible pushchair and car seat not exceeding 23 kg or dimensions of 90 x 75 x 43 cm (35 x 30 x 17 in).

Please note
•Items not included or covered by the free baggage allowance will incur additional levies.
•For journeys with mixed class tickets or with changes to different airlines, the baggage allowance for each will apply on every leg of the journey.
•Baggage allowance is per person and cannot be combined with a travelling companion’s.
 
Hand luggage
•Little Red (UK Domestic), Economy &  Premium Economy Class – one piece of luggage not exceeding 10 kg (22 lb) and a dimension of 23 x 36 x 56 cm (9 x 15 x 22 in). Laptops are included in this allowance. 
•Upper Class – two pieces of luggage not exceeding 16 kg (35 lb) in total (with a maximum weight of 12 kg [26 lb] for an individual item) and a dimension of 23 x 36 x 56 cm (9 x 15 x 22 in).
•Children & infants – one piece of luggage not exceeding 10 kg  (22 lb) and a dimension of 23 x 36 x 56 cm (9 x 15 x 22 in). When travelling in upper class, the allowance for children (2+) increases to 16 kg (35 lb).
 
Special baggage
•Most sports items not exceeding 23 kg (51 lb) are carried free of charge in addition to free baggage allowances. For a detailed list, visit the Virgin Atlantic website.
•Musical instruments not able to fit within the hand baggage allowance will need to be check in and may incur additional baggage fees. A seat may also be purchased for instruments. Visit the Virgin Atlantic website for details.
•Mobility aids, such as collapsible wheelchairs, can be taken on board some flights or placed in the hold.

Dangerous goods

Transporting liquids
International security regulations have placed restrictions on the quantity of liquid, aerosols and gels (LAGs) that passengers are allowed in their hand luggage when travelling overseas. The packaging and transportation requirements are as follows:
•LAGs must be stored in 100 ml containers and then packed in a 20 cm x 20 cm transparent, re-sealable plastic bag.
•One bag is allowed per passenger and must be shown at airport security.
•Medication, baby products and special dietary products are exempt, as are some duty free purchases.
 
CHECK IN
Domestic check in (Little Red)
Counters open two hours before and close 45 minutes prior to departure (30 minutes for passengers with no baggage).
 
International check in
Virgin Atlantic recommends arriving four hours before departure.
 
Twilight check in
For early morning flights from Gatwick, you may check in between 5 pm and 9 pm the day before.
 
Online & mobile check in
Check in opens 24 hours and closes 2 hours prior to departure. Log on using a mobile device or computer, check in and select your seat. Either print your boarding card or download it on to your mobile device. On arrival at the airport, head straight to a bag drop counter. Kiosk
To check yourself in using one of these convenient stations found at some airports, arrive at least 1.5 hours before departure.
