5 Essential Tips when booking your next holiday.

by | February 28, 2024 | Travel Blogs, Uncategorized

Planning your next holiday should be an exciting adventure, not a headache-inducing ordeal. To ensure smooth sailing from booking to boarding, here are five crucial things to keep in mind:

  1. Check Your Name Twice, Cos it sounds so nice!: Before hitting that “confirm booking” button, take a moment to double-check that your name matches your passport exactly. Trust me, “Mike” and “Mikey” are not interchangeable when checking in for your flight or in the eyes of border control. Avoid last-minute panic and potential fees by ensuring your name is spelt correctly from the get-go.
  2. Passport Power: Your passport is your golden ticket to global exploration, so make sure it’s up to snuff. Check the expiry date—no one wants to be denied boarding due to an expired passport. And remember, some countries require a minimum of six months validity, so don’t let your passport cut it too close. Keep those pages open, too; you never know when you’ll need that extra space for stamps and visas.
  3. Visa Vigilance: Ah, the dreaded visa dance. As South Africans, we’re all too familiar with the visa hustle. Don’t let your holiday dreams be dashed by overlooking this vital step. Research visa requirements for your destination well in advance. The last thing you want is to be turned away at the gate because you forgot to secure that crucial entry permit.
  4. Insurance Is Your BFF: Travel insurance might seem like an unnecessary expense until you find yourself facing a hefty hospital bill in a foreign currency. Don’t take chances with your health or your wallet—invest in comprehensive travel insurance. While some credit cards offer basic coverage, topping up with additional insurance ensures you’re fully protected against any unexpected mishaps.
  5. Cash is King (and so are Travel Cards): Money matters, especially when you’re abroad. Make sure you’re prepared by arranging a travel spend card before you jet off. Many banks offer convenient travel debit cards that can be loaded with foreign currency, sparing you the hassle of exchanging cash or dealing with hefty conversion fees. With a travel card in hand, you can shop, dine, and explore with ease, knowing your finances are in order.

Remember these five tips, and you’ll be well on your way to a stress-free holiday booking experience. Bon voyage! 🌍✈️
