Personal Hotel Recommendations for Mauritius
I recently visited a range of hotels in Mauritius and was blown away by how amazing they were! There is something for everyone, so I have decided to briefly break each property down and explain what I enjoyed about them.
This is the company’s entry level 4-star property which is based in Grand Bay. This makes it super convenient for travelers looking at shopping at the local malls or super markets like Super You as well as exploring the restaurants bars and nightclubs. People travelling on business may also enjoy this property as it is about 25KM to the capital, Port Louis.
We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere the resort had to offer. It has a little bit of everything without going overboard in order to keep it at a competitive price point. Rooms are clean and refreshingly decorated with each room overlooking the pool or Grand Bay. Food is great, drinks flow at the bar overlooking the pools and bay and there is even underground nightclub open 3 times a week.
If you are looking for sports, there is a gym, tennis courts and the usual water sports situated off a nice beach that allows you to walk around the bay.
This resort is suited to couples, honeymooners and people on business or anyone looking for an entry level 4+ hotel located in the heart of Grand Bay
Another 4-star property based near Grand Bay but slightly more family orientated. This unique resort is characterized by the spa built into the Banyan tree based on the property as well as the historical remnants of the old colonial forts and cannons.
The rooms are great with refreshingly clean colours and a nice beach room type atmosphere. The USB charge points next to the bed are convenient. Food is great with a sea view restaurant called Le Navigator which offers couples and honeymooners the perfect setting to express their undying love to each other!
There are two small beaches that one can access however they are smallish and there can at times be a bit of coral in the sea sand. As long as you are not one of those searching for long white beaches than this is the place for you! The views however certainly make up for it as does the character of the resort, so it depends on your requirements.
Some of the other services that we enjoyed was the put-put course, various dive sites which are in close vicinity as well as the kids club which has been refurbished and offers tons of activities for the little ones.
I would recommend this hotel to families and couples looking for a good 4-star property with loads of activities, winding paths, wellness in a tree and conveniently close to Grand Bay.
4* Superior Victoria:
A firm favourite for family holidays with South African’s. Based along the North West coast of the island it offers an expansive and open spaciousness type feel so even when it is full to capacity you don’t feel it.
It is perfectly suited to families and one of the big plusses here is the kids club on the beach. Mom and Dad can chill on the beach while their kids run riot in the play pen! Couples will also enjoy this resort especially if they select to go for the Victoria for 2 section, an exclusive part of the resort specifically only for couples and no kids under 18 are allowed.
The beach is long and wide and there is a nice open area from which to hone your water sport skills such as snorkeling, water skiing and stand up paddling. There are 4 restaurants each with themes ranging from Italian to Fishermen villages.
Another advantage of this resort is that all the rooms spacious and all are sea facing.
5* Troux Aux Biches:
One of the most well-known properties on the island, this 5-star property looks and is magnificent! As you enter this resort you walk into paradise. It is magnificently laid out and we rate this hotel as having some of the best and most up to date facilities whether it be the kids club, gym or the luxurious rooms that are probably some of the nicest on the island in this category.
The beach front pool villas are incredible with their own private pool where you can sip champagne while enjoying the infamous sun sets that the west coast is so well known for. The beach is beautiful and long enough to explore on those early morning walks.
Another great aspect to this hotel is that it offers 6 restaurants with themes from Thai and Indian to Mediterranean and Italian.
It does have a very upmarket vibe about it so certainly for those discerning travelers and in our opinion more suited to couples but certainly an option for families given the variety of activities and facilities for kids.
One of our favourite 5-star properties which is situated down in the South of the island which is slightly less commercialized and quitter part of the island. This is a property that has one of the longest, widest beaches on the island, a lagoon for doing water sports and with a back drop of La Morne mountain which is absolutely spectacular.
What we liked about this property is its relaxed and informal atmosphere but still within the confines of a top 5-star resort and related services and facilities. The newly decorated rooms that are being upgraded are fresh and light and if you have a special occasion the beach front villas are awe inspiring!
Golfing enthusiasts will love this property as Paradis Golf Club is right opposite the hotel and offers a scenically beautiful course that traverses the lagoon, mountain and sea with some magnificent fairways and green to enjoy the views.
We recommend this property for families, honeymooners and couples alike. There are loads of activities and something for everyone.
An upmarket 5-star property down South on the quieter part of the island where it is less commercialized and scenically stunning! This hotel has some of the longest widest beaches on the island and with a back drop of La Morne mountain you are in for a treat!
There is a colonial or by gone era feel to this property however mixed into this is one of the nicest Beach bars that we experienced. Whether it be a cold Phoenix beer (local beer) or a cocktail, this is the perfect setting to watch those beautiful sun sets.
Another bonus on this property is that rooms are all sea facing and built into a crescent where you have a pool in the middles so the perfect place to relax if the beach is not your thing or you simply want to take some time out with a quiet book.
There are all the usual activities such as spa’s, kids’ clubs and sports center but in addition to this you also get access to Paradise Golf Club which run alongside the resort and one of the best courses on the island.
We recommend this hotel for mostly couples and honeymooners.
One of the most conveniently placed 5-star hotels on Mauritius and for the following reasons. It is about 15 minutes from the airport so easy to get to and no getting up at the crack of dawn to make your flight if you are on the other side of the island. Generally everything is about an hour from the airport!
The hotel has 3 beaches of which two of them face the lagoon and Marine park and the third is their “wild beach” with a lovely long beach with waves crashing down almost taking you back to the coastlines of South Africa.
The lagoon offers water skiing and other water sports throughout the day and no need to worry about tides etc. All motorized water sports run directly off the jetty, so you also don’t have to take a boat to a platform as with most hotels. The marine park offers a reserve for aquatic life and where fishing is prohibited. This therefore offers some amazing snorkeling where you can even get to see Turtles!
This is one of the few 5-star properties on Mauritius that offers All-Inclusive so what you see is what you get and no hidden surprises down the line. This also ends up creating a nice festive atmosphere especially around the bar in the evenings!
We recommend this property for families, couples and honeymooners.
